What we build

Custom Balloon Arches for Pittsburgh Parties and Events

Put an arch over a doorway, a cake table or a stage and the room suddenly has a focal point people walk toward.

A balloon arch is a curve of balloons that frames one thing on purpose: the door guests come through, the table with the cake, the spot where the couple stands or the graduate poses. It rides on a metal frame or ties off at both ends, and it gives you the presence of flowers or draping at a much lower cost. From the back of a fire hall or through a phone camera, it reads instantly.

We don't start from a catalog. We start with your date, your colors and a measurement of the space, then choose a balloon mix to match: 5-inch fillers for texture, 11-inch for body, 18- and 24-inch balloons for scale, plus chrome, pearl or foil wherever you want some shine. On the day, we bring everything, build it in place and come back for it when the party wraps up.

Arches get booked here for first birthdays, baby showers, gender reveals, bridal showers, weddings, graduation parties, bar and bat mitzvahs, christenings, retirement parties, office events and store openings. If there's a doorway to mark, a table to frame or a photo to take, an arch earns its spot.

Arch styles

Balloon Arch Styles We Build

Shape sets the whole mood. These are the arch styles we build, and what each one is good at.

Organic balloon arches

An organic arch scatters different balloon sizes through loose clusters, so the line looks lush and a little untamed instead of patterned. It's the style that fills most Pinterest boards, it holds tucked-in florals and greenery well, and it suits showers, weddings and milestone birthdays. Because it packs more balloons into every foot, it costs somewhat more than a classic arch.

Classic and spiral balloon arches

A classic arch stacks tight, matching clusters of four balloons along the frame. Rotate the colors from cluster to cluster and you get a spiral that winds around the arch in two, three or four shades. It's crisp and durable, and it's the best way to show off school colors, team colors or a company palette, which is why it turns up at grad parties, banquets and black-and-gold watch parties.

Round, circle and hoop arches

A round arch (you'll also hear circle, ring or hoop) sets balloons around part or all of a circular frame. A full ring frames a person head to toe; a crescent of balloons on one side leaves open space in the middle for a name panel or a light-up sign. Round arches are a favorite for photo corners, sweet 16s and proposals.

Square and backdrop arches

A square arch runs balloons up one side, across the top and down the other side of a rectangular frame, usually around a panel, shimmer wall or flower wall. It turns the cake table into a small stage with clean edges for photos. When you want the arch and the backdrop designed as one piece, start on our balloon backdrops page.

Half and asymmetrical arches

A half arch (some people call it a swoop or a demi arch) rises up one side of a door, table or backdrop and stops short of the other. It looks current and deliberate, it uses fewer balloons than a full arch, and it's a smart move when the budget is tight but the photo still matters.

Double arches

A double arch sets two arches together, one behind or inside the other, to add depth. It's useful in big rooms like hotel ballrooms, school gyms and banquet halls, where a single arch can look small from the back tables.

Mini and tabletop arches

A tabletop arch spans about 4 to 6 feet and frames a cake, a dessert spread, a gift table or a sweetheart table. It fits where a full arch won't: a rowhouse dining room, a restaurant private room, a corner of a church hall or an apartment shower.

Entrance and doorway arches

An entrance arch tells everyone where the party is before they reach the door. We build them over front doors, porch steps, garage doors, hall entrances and storefronts. Outdoor arches get weighted bases and extra ties, because a gusty afternoon on an exposed hillside porch can shift an unanchored frame. Add balloon columns on both sides for a full entrance.

Large and giant balloon arches

Large arches, 16 feet and up, cross double doors, stages, driveways and gym entrances. Giant arches of 25 to 40 feet with 24- and 36-inch balloons show up at store openings, school events and community festivals. Builds that size are planned as a custom balloon installation around the site itself.

Balloon arches with flowers and greenery

A floral arch works silk or fresh flowers, eucalyptus, pampas and trailing greenery into the balloon clusters. It's the softest version of an arch and the one brides, christening hosts and Mother's Day brunch planners ask for most.

Sizing

Balloon Arch Sizes: Which Size Fits Your Space?

Measure before you pick. An undersized arch disappears in photos, and an oversized one crowds the door.

Balloon arch sizes and where each one fits
Arch sizeFitsApprox. balloons
4–6 ft tabletop or miniCake, dessert, gift and cookie tables60–110 organic
6.5–7 ft frame archPhoto corners, single doors, small backdrops90–130 organic
10–12 ft archFront doors, porch steps, 8 ft backdrops150–220 organic or 60–75 classic
16–20 ft archDouble doors, stages, 10 ft backdrops240–360 organic or 100–130 classic
25 ft and longerStore openings, gyms, outdoor entrancesPlanned per site

We measure an arch along its curve, not across the floor. A 16–20 ft arch usually stands 8–9 ft high and spans 8–10 ft at the base. The balloon count shifts with balloon size and how full you want it.

How many balloons does a balloon arch take? Plan on roughly 5–6 balloons per foot for a classic arch of 11-inch balloons, and 12–18 per foot for an organic arch that mixes 5-, 11- and 18-inch sizes. That works out to about 70–110 balloons for a 6 ft organic arch and 240–360 for a 20 ft one. A bag of 50 covers a small tabletop or half arch, not a full doorway.

Pricing

What Does a Balloon Arch Cost in Pittsburgh?

Most full-size arches we build come in between $200 and $500. Here's where each size starts and what moves the number.

Balloon arch starting prices
ArchStarting at
Tabletop or mini arch (4–6 ft)$150
Frame arch with garland (6.5–7 ft)$195
Doorway arch (10–12 ft)$285
Themed welcome arch with foil accents$310
Full balloon arch (16–20 ft)$395
Double, giant and 25 ft+ archesCustom quote

Delivery, setup and pickup are included within about 30 miles of Downtown. Longer drives add a travel fee starting at $50.

What moves the price of a balloon arch:

  • Length and density. Every extra foot, and every fuller cluster, adds balloons and build time.
  • Style. Organic arches take more balloons per foot than classic or spiral ones.
  • The balloons themselves. Chrome, pearl, double-stuffed custom shades and 18–36 inch statement balloons cost more than standard latex.
  • Extras. Florals, greenery, foil shapes, vinyl names, marquee numbers and backdrop panels.
  • How it stands. Our frames are included in most quotes; rigging an arch off venue structure takes more labor.
  • Access and timing. A third-floor walk-up, a long run of front steps, an early-morning build or a tight hall rental window all take extra hands or extra time.
  • Pickup. Teardown can be included, or skipped if you'd like to keep the balloons.

For an exact figure, send the date, venue, size and colors and we'll reply with a written quote. Each service lists its own starting prices too: see garlands, columns and backdrops.

Occasions

Balloon Arches for Pittsburgh Celebrations

The arch changes with the event. These are the occasions we build for most.

Birthday balloon arches

First birthdays, character parties for kids, sweet 16s and the big ones (30, 40, 50, 60), often with a marquee number or a foil number worked into the arch.

Baby showers and gender reveals

Soft neutrals and pastels for showers and sprinkles, and pink-and-blue arches with a reveal moment built right in.

Wedding balloon arches

Ceremony arches, sweetheart-table arches and an arch over the cookie table, plus bridal showers, engagement parties and anniversaries.

Graduation party arches

School colors and the class year for grad parties in the backyard, the garage or a rented fire hall. Late May and June weekends fill up first.

Bar and bat mitzvahs

Arches at the party entrance or behind the head table in the honoree's colors, for celebrations in Squirrel Hill and across the East End.

Christenings and first communions

White, ivory and soft pastel arches for baptisms, christenings and first communions, at home or in the parish hall.

Store openings and corporate events

Brand-color arches for ribbon cuttings, grand openings, trade show booths, employee appreciation days and office parties.

Holiday and game-day arches

Halloween and Christmas lead the calendar, then Valentine's Day, Easter, St. Patrick's Day, the 4th of July and New Year's Eve, with black and gold for watch parties all season.

Retirements, homecomings and memorials

Retirement arches, welcome-home arches at the front door and quiet, respectful arches for celebrations of life.

Colors and themes

Popular Balloon Arch Colors and Themes in Pittsburgh

Send us an invitation, a screenshot or a single color, and we'll build a palette from it.

Palettes we build most

  • Black and gold. The city's own colors, so they show up at Steelers, Pirates and Penguins watch parties, milestone birthdays and New Year's Eve.
  • Blush, white and gold. Bridal showers, baby showers and first birthdays.
  • Rainbow and pastels. Kids' birthdays, Easter and anything meant to feel bright and happy.
  • Red, white and blue. Fourth of July cookouts, military homecomings and retirements.
  • Sage, dusty blue, terracotta and cream. The softer boho look for showers and weddings.
  • School colors. Graduations, senior nights, banquets and college send-offs, from local high school colors to Pitt blue and gold.
  • White, silver and ice blue. Winter birthdays, holiday parties and anything around Light Up Night.

Themes

For character parties we pair licensed foil balloons with latex in matching shades: Bluey, Mickey and Minnie, Spider-Man, Paw Patrol, Toy Story, Pokémon, Hello Kitty and Winnie the Pooh come up most. Dinosaurs, mermaids, safari, teddy bear showers and sports themes are close behind, and every fall brings a run of football-season and Halloween arches.

Your options

Full Installation, Arch Rental or a DIY Kit?

There's more than one way to get an arch into your party. Here's how the options compare.

Balloon arch options side by side
OptionWhat you getBest when
Full installationWe design it, bring it, build it on-site and collect it afterYou want it right and would rather not spend party morning on a ladder
Balloon arch rentalA ready-built frame arch dropped off and picked up laterSmall arches, photo corners and simple setups
Grab-and-go garlandA finished garland you collect and hang yourselfShort runs for a table or wall on a tight budget
DIY arch kitA bag of balloons, a decorating strip and glue dotsSmall arches, time to spare and a patient helper

How do you make simple balloon decor? For a small piece, start with a kit, an electric pump and a decorating strip, and build in a cool room the day of the party. A full organic arch is a different job: we spend one to three hours on-site, while first-timers often spend four to eight and usually make a second run for more balloons. Inflating too early or with the wrong pump leads to sagging and popping. If the arch is the centerpiece, having it built is usually worth it.

Pittsburgh weather

Outdoor Balloon Arches in Pittsburgh Cold, Rain and Summer Heat

An arch can absolutely go outside here. It just needs a plan for the season.

Pittsburgh hands balloons a different problem every season. Winter is the hard one: January lows sit in the mid-20s, and cold air shrinks latex so an arch looks deflated on the porch, then swells again once it's carried into a warm room. Below freezing, latex also turns brittle. Summer is gentler than in much of the country, with highs in the low 80s, but direct sun still clouds latex within hours, and afternoon thunderstorms bring gusts and downpours. Late spring and early fall are the easy months for outdoor arches.

  • Cold weather, short exposure. In winter we build entrance arches as close to arrival time as we can and inflate them for the temperature they'll actually sit in.
  • Inside when it's freezing. Once it drops below freezing, a vestibule, enclosed porch or garage with the door up is a better home for the arch than the front steps.
  • Shade in summer. Covered porches, tents and the shady side of the house keep colors true and balloons intact.
  • Air, not helium, outside. Outdoor arches are air-filled on a frame. Helium loses lift quickly in the cold and fades fast in summer heat.
  • Weight for wind. Outdoor frames get heavy bases and ties to a railing or post, especially on hillside yards and open riverfront patios.
  • A rain plan. Light rain beads off latex without harm. Lightning or strong wind means we move the arch under cover.

Longevity

How Long Does a Balloon Arch Last?

Air-filled and indoors, an arch holds up for several days. Outdoors, it depends on the season.

Typical balloon arch lifespan
SettingTypical life
Air-filled, indoors at room temperatureSeveral days, often a week or longer
Air-filled, outdoors in spring or fall shadeA full day, often into the next
Air-filled, outdoors in direct summer sunA few hours before fading and popping
Air-filled, outdoors below freezingHours; latex shrinks and turns brittle
Helium arches and bouquetsHours, unless treated to float longer

Will a balloon arch last four days? Indoors and air-filled, yes, which is why a night-before build works for morning showers and christenings, and why multi-day events keep their arches inside. Can an arch go up the night before? Indoors, yes. Outdoors, build it the day of, whatever the season.

We arrive in your setup window, carry everything in (steps and all), build the arch and check that it's steady and ready for photos.

  4. 4

    Party, then pickup

Questions

Balloon Arches in Pittsburgh: FAQ

What does it cost for a balloon arch?

Our arches start at $150 for a tabletop arch, $195 for a 6.5–7 ft frame arch and $395 for a full 16–20 ft arch, with delivery, setup and pickup included in our core area. Length, style, balloon count, extras and drive time set the final price.

How long do balloon arches last?

Several days indoors when air-filled, often a week or longer at room temperature. Outdoors they last about a day in mild, shaded weather, and only hours in hot summer sun or below-freezing cold. Helium arches last hours unless treated.

How many balloons are in a balloon arch?

Around 12–18 per foot for an organic arch and 5–6 per foot for a classic arch. A 6 ft organic arch uses about 70–110 balloons, and a 20 ft organic arch about 240–360.

Is a balloon arch the same as a balloon garland?

Not quite. A garland is the flexible strand of balloon clusters, and it can hang on a wall, mantel, railing or table. An arch is a garland, or a run of classic clusters, built over a frame so it stands and curves by itself.

Are balloon arches filled with helium?

Most aren't. Arches are air-filled and held up by a frame, so they last longer and cost less. Helium is for floating arches and bouquets, which last hours to a day.

Can a balloon arch go outside in a Pittsburgh winter?

Yes, for a short window. Cold shrinks latex and freezing makes it brittle, so winter outdoor arches go up close to arrival time, or move into a vestibule, enclosed porch or open garage.

How far in advance should I book a balloon arch?

Two to four weeks is ideal. Book earlier for graduation season in late May and June, December holiday weekends and wedding-season Saturdays.

Can a balloon arch be set up the night before?

Indoors, yes. An air-filled arch built the evening before looks the same the next morning. Outdoor arches should go up the day of the event.

Can you get an arch up the steps to my house?

Yes. Most arches travel as frame sections and bags of balloons and are built on-site, so long front steps, hillside walks and narrow rowhouse doors aren't a problem. Tell us about the steps and parking when you book so we can plan the crew and the time.

Do you deliver, set up and take the arch down?

Yes. Full-service arches are delivered, built where they'll stand and collected after the event. Ready-built frame arches and grab-and-go garlands are available too if you'd rather handle setup yourself.

What if a guest has a latex allergy?

Ask for a latex-free design. Arches, walls and backdrops can be built from foil balloons instead, and many hospitals, schools and offices only allow foil.

Are balloon arches still in style?

Yes. Organic arches, half arches and arches paired with backdrops and florals are the current look for showers, weddings, birthdays and company events. The tight, uniform spiral is the older style, but it's still the best way to show off school and team colors.
